The otter: an indicator of clean water

The otter is one of the vertebrate species that has suffered a wide decrease in the last decade in Spain. In the Region of Murcia, the only population left is located in Segura river; upstream of Murcia to Archena; and the Alhárabe river, from Risca to its mouth. In total, an area encompassing around 160 kilometres of river bank. However, in the past, it was possible to come across otters in lots of places of the Murcia region.
