Valuation of ecosystems in Calblanque Regional Park, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila

Located on the eastern coastline of Region of Murcia, Calblanque Regional Park, Monte de las Cenizas and Peña del Águila has a high ecological value and naturalistic interest, forming a forest system with interesting plant communities and a remarkable wildlife value, as well as diverse ecosystems. These ecosystems form a natural group in which important relationships are established, and present a high value for conservation.
Based on the 'Basic studies of management plans for natural resources in the coastal area of Calblanque-Peña del Águila', high value zones host a number of species and habitats, and present good conditions for conservation or easy recovery.
The beaches and rocky coastline of Calblanque would be at this stage, that would include the cliffs, fossil dunes and supralittoral vegetation zones in Punta Espada, one of the Sites of Geological Interest (LIG in Spanish) of Region of Murcia. The high biodiversity in sandy ecosystems (dunes, sand wets and watercourses) are also worth mentioning.
On the other hand, Rasall salt marshes in Calblanque, and the nearby the salt marshes and reeds are regarded as high level zones due to the variety of fauna and the uniqueness of the various habitats that exist.
As part of the high level zones, due to their plant communities and wildlife values, the following areas can also be found: abandoned crops in the area of Peña del Águila, junipers in the nearby area, oaks and calcicole shrubs in Calblanque, thorny bushes that run from Punta Parreño to Cabo Negrete and the road from Portmán-Los Belones, mixed bushes throughout the protected area and the pine forests of Peña del Águila, Atamaría y Monte de las Cenizas.
All these areas would, in turn, be identified as areas of environmental, geomorphological or ecological reserve, and conservation priority areas. In the meantime, the degraded mixed bushed, the reforestation pine areas, the wastelands, or cultivation zones without indigenous plants or transformed, are regarded as average or low value, and belong to the areas of intensive use.
