Improvement and adaptation of the Lorca municipal waste treatment plant

Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 November 2008 on waste, and the consequent Law 22/2011, of July 28, on waste and contaminated soil, underline the need for treatment systems in order to be able to reach the recovery goals established in the current regulations for 2020. Consequently, the drafting and subsequent implementation of the "Improvement and adaptation of the Lorca municipal waste treatment plant. Phase I: residual fraction treatment line" plan was recommended.
These actions have been driven by the Murcia Region's Presidential Ministry's Directorate General for the Environment and were implemented between 2011 and 2012 by the public company Tecnologías y Servicios Agrarios, S.A. (Tragsa and Tragsatec).
The projects include the expansion of the treatment capacity for municipal waste residual fractions (Phase I) and the expansion and upgrading of the existing ancillary facilities.
The initial budget for the mentioned works for the improvement and adaptation of the Lorca municipal waste treatment plant amply exceeded three and a half million euros.
